Lick Observatory Computing Facility (LOCF)

The first incarnation of computer support at UCO/Lick Observatory was the Lick Observatory Computing Facility, consisting initially of one person-- Bob Kibrick. The facility grew over time, and included some of the founding members of NICS.

Eventually, it became clear that scientific development needed to be separated from computer support, and in the mid-1990's the group was split in two; the development side grew into the Scientific Programming Group, and the computer support side became NICS.

Network, Information and Computing Services (NICS)

Listed below are the previous members of NICS, in rough chronological order of hiring date. This list is incomplete, and what information does exist here could stand to be fleshed out a bit. We recognize and thank all previous members of NICS for contributing their time to our support environment, and wish them well in their future endeavours.
