There are two types of services provided by NICS-- ongoing support for active users and machines, and one-time support for specific activities, such as video conferencing setups.
Ongoing support:
One-time services:
User Accounts
- UNIX user acccount ($117.00 per month), which includes:
Your very own @ucolick.org e-mail account
- 12GB storage included for server-side e-mail, personal web pages, and other files
Full use of NICS-supported public UNIX hosts
Remote login access to the UCO/Lick network
- Dial-up modem service
- Inactive UNIX user account ($12 per month)
- For users entering a period of inactivity, we can preserve all of that user's files until the account returns to active use.
- Quota options for user accounts
- 24GB quota ($11 per month)
- 48GB quota ($22 per month)
- 96GB quota ($33 per month)
- Utility user account ($5.50 per month)
- For applications that only require a user ID, but never need to be logged in to use, this is the way to go.
Please fill out and submit a UCO/Lick computer account application if you would like to take advantage of any of the above services.
Machines on the UCO/Lick network
We can only provide services for hosts that are connected directly to the UCO/Lick network. All other hosts, be they on a different network on-campus or at your home, are outside the scope of what we can support.
- Network connectivity fee ($12 per month)
- This fee represents the reduced rate NICS is charged by UCSC's ITS organization for basic network connectivity. All unmanaged and managed hosts must also pay this fee.
- Unmanaged host ($33 per month), which provides:
- NICS-managed host ($65 per month), which provides (in addition to the above):
- Complete support coverage for all hardware problems, and industry-standard software applications
- Full backups of all data on the machine, performed every other day
- NICS-managed Windows laptop ($85 per month), which provides:
- All of the above support, but at a higher cost in recognition of the difficulty of maintaining a mobile Windows device.
- Co-location fee ($25.00 per month), which provides:
- A home for your machine in the NICS server room, which provides cooling, limited battery back up capacity, and physical security.
- Machines occupying large amounts of rack space (such as clusters) may be assessed more than one co-location fee.
Please contact NICS directly for questions about computer support.
Conference setup
- $100 per setup/teardown event, which provides:
- Network connectivity, either wired or wireless, as needed for the entire conference room
- Arrangement of power strips as needed
- Testing and support for videoconferencing functions
- On-call support as issues come up during the event
Please fill out and submit a conference fee recharge form if you would like to take advantage of this service.
Laptop Restoration
Only laptops purchased through UCO/Lick and belonging to owners with UCO/Lick user accounts are eligible for this service.
- Evaluation ($100 per event)
- NICS will evaluate the feasibility of restoration; if it is decided that restoration is possible then the $100 is credited towards the full cost of the restoration.
- Restoration ($450 per event), which provides:
- A full backup to DVD of all data recovered from the laptop.
- Full restoration of the laptop to a stable, working state.
- The restoration does not include the cost of any software or hardware that must be purchased in order to repair the laptop.
Please fill out and submit a laptop restoration fee recharge form if you would like to take advantage of this service.
