The following represents the acceptable use policy for guest accounts
on the UCO/Lick network; this policy was approved by CPMC on December 12th,
2001.
Stipulations:
Guest accounts will have a 30-day lifetime. At the end of that time
period, the password will expire and you will have to request a new
password. Guest account users will not have the ability to change
their UNIX password.
A guest account is intended for local, on-site use only.
No UNIX account is to be used by more than one person simultaneously;
this includes guest accounts. Such simultaneous use is a shared-password
situation, and is not acceptable from a security standpoint.
If you violate this policy, you will be notified of the violation, and be
asked to adhere to this acceptable use policy. If the violation persists,
your guest account will be disabled.
"Guest" accounts are only for use by individuals who meet the following
criteria:
Has properly identified him or herself to UCO/Lick NICS and LOBO.
Is here for a short time as a sponsored guest of one of our PI's, such
that it is not worth the trouble to create a user account specific to
the visitor.
Does not and will not have a long-term presence within UCO/Lick or any
UCO/Lick computer systems, either on "public" or "private" hosts.
Understands that ownership of any resources and/or data they may create
during their stay will be assumed by a "regular" UCO/Lick user, usually
the PI sponsoring the guest account.
Understands (along with their sponsor) that upon their departure the
password to the "guest" account will be changed.
To activate a guest account, please contact Gill Casey at
